The stethoscope is the most widely used item of medical equipment in the world, yet up to recently very little attention has been paid to it as a vector for harbouring infection.
Numerous international studies have shown that stethoscope heads can harbour pathogenic organisms.
Rates of infection with yeasts, fungi, blood and bacteria, including gram-positive and negative bacilli and MRSA, range from 17% to 87%.

The StetPro system is a single use silicone membrane stethoscope cover used to protect against cross-contamination. The membranes are non-latex, will fit 95% of all stethoscope heads and shows no significant impedance of acoustics. Available in the HandiPak dispenser with contains 10 units and the larger MulitPak dispensers which contain either 25 or 100 units.
